It’s been a while since I had such a unique dream!
It felt like a mixture of Disney, Pokemon and Cells at Work. Like Cells at work; millions of workers spend every waking hour working to keep “the world” alive. Once a worker is assigned a role, they stay in that position for the rest of their days. Alone, a worker couldn’t achieve much; they work more efficiently in groups of workers with similar skills.
Group A keeps the city clean and healthy by eliminating invaders, filth and sickness. Group B, the largest group, is responsible for transporting nutrients and fuel all over the world everyday. This dream world looked a lot like something straight out of anime or Disney movie. It was unique, quirky and somewhat magical. For some reason Team Rocket from Pokemon made an appearance in this dream. The characters in the dream are basically cogs that keep the world running. What would happen if the characters decided not to work anymore? Well you are about to find out!
It all started with one cog who took a day off from work. Ever since he became an adult he never stopped working; after all this was how the world worked. During his day off the cog realised something; even though he wasn’t working the world still continued on as normal. Suddenly it was like his life was unimportant; he always believed his work was important and was proud of the role he played in the world. Watching the day pass as usual, the cog questioned if his actions actually meant anything; if he was really needed in the world.
The next day, the cog was less enthusiastic to return to work. As he repeated the tasks he had done thousands of times before, however the pride he held in his work had begun to waver. The cog shared some of these thoughts with his friends and colleagues; sadly they couldn’t understand his feelings. After a few days changed the cog became more aware of the world around him and noticed that something had changed. He never would have imagined his thoughts would have such a huge impact on the world. Shortly after speaking with his friends, other cogs started taking days off work; it didn’t take long for the news to spread all over the world.
When cogs and gears all over the world stopped showing up to work, problems started to occur. At first, their absence seemed irrelevant and the world continued to function as normal. The damage caused by the missing gears and cogs only became apparent when the world was on the brink of collapse. With so many cogs skipping work the system sustaining the world became unstable; energy levels were at an all time low because nutrients were no longer being distributed properly. Worst of all, with the system weakened, invaders successfully infiltrated the world and began spreading viruses.
The cog had never seen the world in such a disastrous state. While the workers ignored their roles and indulged in meaningless activities, the world was falling apart. Faced with the reality before him, the cog realised that the work he does has meaning afterall. A cog can only work as part of a team. However with so many cogs out of place; it was inevitable for the world to stop working.
To have any chance of saving their world from destruction, each and every cog needed to work together once again.
